The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced the relaunch of the **Kampala City Festival**, Uganda’s largest urban celebration, after a seven-year hiatus. The announcement was made during a press briefing by KCCA Executive Director **Sharifah Buzeki** at the Uganda Media Centre. 2
The festival is set to officially launch on **August 16, 2025**, at **City Hall**, with celebration dates to be confirmed during the event unveiling. 3
Celebrating Kampala’s Progress
Buzeki described the event as a platform to celebrate culture, innovation, and community spirit. “It’s not just about entertainment—it’s about unity and recognizing how far the city has advanced,” she said. 4
Milestones in City Service Delivery
KCCA highlighted key achievements over the past year: rehabilitation of **over 70 km of roads**, near-completion of **Kayemba Bridge** and the **Nakawa Railway Crossing**, and progress on the **Greater Kampala Urban Development Program**. 5
In waste management, KCCA is preparing to decommission the Kiteezi landfill and move operations to a new **230-hectare Integrated Waste Management facility** in Mpigi District, funded by UN-Habitat and the Japanese government. 6
Community and Economic Highlights
The festival will also showcase expanded public services: **59 new public toilets**, upgraded schools, and a new maternity ward under construction at Kiswa Health Centre. Markets like **Busega Market** have been launched, benefiting over 2,000 traders. Youth engagement programs, including vocational training and urban farming, have supported income generation and inclusion. 7
Looking Ahead
As Kampala prepares for the festival, the event promises to be more than a street party — it is intended as a **symbolic showcase** of urban renewal and civic transformation in Uganda’s capital. 8
