Multiple Students Hurt as School Bus Overturns En Route to Music Festival in Meru
A school bus transporting students and teachers from Salvation Army Imusutsu High School met with an accident early Friday morning on the Kisumu–Busia highway near Sirwa Posta in Vihiga County. The vehicle was en route to the Kenya National Music Festival in Meru when it lost control and overturned off the roadside.
Several students sustained injuries, although exact numbers have not been disclosed. Local residents quickly responded to assist victims trapped in the wreckage before police arrived to secure the scene and begin an investigation.
Authorities have confirmed the students were traveling to participate in the annual national festival, a major event showcasing musical talents from across Kenya’s schools.
This incident occurred on the same day as a tragic collision between a train and a company bus in Naivasha, which resulted in eight fatalities. The two accidents have heightened concerns about road and transport safety standards nationwide.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash. Meanwhile, emergency services have been deployed to support the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals.
