Two Chinese Nationals in California Accused of Illegally Shipping Nvidia AI Chips to China

U.S. authorities have charged two Chinese nationals based in California with illegally exporting advanced Nvidia AI chips to China — violating federal export controls.

According to the Department of Justice, the suspects allegedly orchestrated a complex scheme involving shell companies and falsified shipping documents to send restricted high-performance GPUs to Chinese entities without proper licensing.

The illegally shipped chips are believed to be top-tier Nvidia units used for AI research, supercomputing, and military applications, raising national security concerns. These exports allegedly bypassed U.S. regulations aimed at preventing critical technologies from reaching unauthorized foreign users.

The suspects are expected to appear in federal court, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether they were part of a broader international network.
